New Assistant Clerk-Recorder Michelle Ascencion Appointed Deputy County Clerk-Recorder and Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages

(Ventura) – County Clerk-Recorder, Registrar of Voters Mark Lunn is pleased to announce that Michelle Ascencion has assumed the duties of Assistant Clerk-Recorder effective January 4, 2021. “As an elected official, Michelle brings extensive clerk and election experience to the position of Assistant Clerk-Recorder. She has been a great partner during her tenure as the Oxnard City Clerk.”

Ms. Ascencion has over 20 years of public and non-profit service, her most recent position being the elected Oxnard City Clerk. There, she administered a stand-alone recall election of four council members, assisted with the first-ever Oxnard council district formation process, played a key role in the development of the Sunshine Ordinance and council committee system to increase transparency, and served as District 12 Director for the City Clerks Association of California. Prior to her tenure at the City of Oxnard, Ms. Ascencion worked for the Ventura Regional Sanitation District, the City of Port Hueneme, the American Cancer Society, and the Ventura County Rescue Mission.

As Assistant Clerk-Recorder, Ms. Ascencion will work under administrative direction of the County Clerk-Recorder, Registrar of Voters and will plan, organize, administer, supervise and direct the activities of both the County Clerk-Recorder and Election Divisions. As an appointed Deputy Clerk-Recorder and Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages, she has the authority to administer the Oath of Office and perform civil marriage ceremonies.

Ms. Ascencion holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism with a Public Relations concentration from California Polytechnic State University. She holds both Certified Municipal Clerk and Master Municipal Clerk designations from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
